Will You Help Us Frame Our Future?

As 2023 winds down, many of us are busy preparing our homes to gather with loved ones and share the warmth and joy of the holiday season. It's a time of togetherness, reflection and gratitude.

Because of your kindness and generosity, Habitat homeowners and their families in Midland County will experience that same comfort and joy in their own homes.

In 1989, we embarked on a journey with a powerful mission: to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Since then, we have built nearly 100 homes – and this is only the beginning.

In 2024, we’ll celebrate our 35th anniversary – a milestone that stands as a testament to the support, dedication and care of our community.

As we evolve and grow, we’ll continue to prioritize innovation to adapt to the changing needs of the economy and our community. This allows us to find new and creative solutions to the challenges of affordable housing, such as adding multifamily housing to our portfolio.

Will you help us continue our mission and set the foundation for the next 35 years?

Srong and stable homes build strong and stable communities. Whether it's the construction of new homes, the revitalization of neighborhoods, or the support of families in need, we are dedicated to helping people in need thrive in Midland County.

When you make a donation to support MCHFH or sign up to volunteer, you are not just contributing to a cause.

You are helping us create affordable housing for those who need it most. You are playing an active role in building a stronger, more vibrant community.

Your gift to Midland County Habitat for Humanity makes the dream of homeownership a reality.

Together, we can make a significant impact by making strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter accessible.

With heartfelt gratitude this holiday season,

Jennifer Chappel

Midland County Habitat for Humanity was co-founded by Joseph and Karen Lehman and Richard J. Dargar in the basement of Memorial Presbyterian in the late 1980s.

Today, we are proud to have a 1 million dollar community impact on an annual basis.

Here are some of our most significant milestones.

  • 2004: We partnered with the Home Builders Association and Dow on an eight-day blitz build to finish a home for a family in need. Our homeowner stated: “I’m looking forward to having a safe, secure home for my mom and daughter.”
  • 2005: Part of the statewide Jimmy Carter Work Project, we participated in the first-ever three-house blitz build on Yoder Drive. We kicked off the project by building beams in the courthouse parking lot.
  • 2010: We signed a land contract with Don and JoAnn Hawkins to acquire the former Hawkins Printing building, where we are currently located. By collaborating with Disability Network, we created the condo association, so we each owned our units.
  • 2013: We built three new homes in Midland County, effectively recovering from the 2008 housing crisis. In December, we celebrated our 25th anniversary and launched a fundraising campaign to build 16 new homes and revitalize 100 homes in Midland.
  • 2017: MCHFH was awarded Affiliate of the Year by Habitat for Humanity of Michigan. We also began our partnership with the Greater Midland Construction Academy.
  • 2018: Urban planning and development firm czb completed an analysis of Midland County’s housing market. The housing study highlighted that low- to moderate-income families could not keep up with rising housing costs.
  • 2019: The housing study revealed a need for affordable housing In response, MCHFH launched a multifamily capital campaign to provide more housing options in the county.
  • 2023: Multifamily homeowners closed on their new homes.
