Midland County Habitat for Humanity (MCHFH) is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. We partner with local businesses, organizations, churches and volunteers to help build homes with qualifying families. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Most importantly, partner families play a large role in the building of the home. They invest 250 hours of labor “sweat equity” into building their homes and the homes of others. They also make income-based mortgage payments which go into a fund that is used to build more homes. With the generous support of donors and volunteers, MCHFH has made a lasting and meaningful impact in our community by helping local families realize their dreams of affordable home-ownership and furthering Habitat’s goal of simple, decent and affordable housing.
WHY HABITAT?
MCHFH provides a hand-up to families in need of decent, affordable housing. Our programs are designed to empower people to build better lives for themselves and their families. The benefits of owning an affordable home are far-reaching — improving financial stability, education and employment opportunities, and beyond. For repairs, our work improves the health, safety, and accessibility of homes, and allows homeowners to “age in place.”

Employee volunteer teams build alongside homeowners putting in their “sweat equity,” building community in a partnership focused on self-reliance. who does habitat support? Families partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Our Homeownership Program works with future homeowners who meet income requirements and are willing to partner with us through 250 hours of “sweat equity” along with an affordable, lower-cost down payment on their homes. Future homeowners work alongside staff and volunteers to build and repair houses, and take part in homeownership workshops to ensure they have the knowledge and financial literacy to maintain stability in their new homes. Our Home Repair Program follows a similar model and is working to repair owner occupied homes to help residents age in place and prevent blight.
